Another fun topic I found from a while back that would be good to share here:
Researching Mesopotamia, Canaan, Jewish origins ect..... I keep returning to this theory/idea that the Jewish people were a specific subset of Canaanite society (perhaps called Habiru: www.newenglishreview.org/Robert_Wolfe/From_Habiru_to_Hebrews%3A_The_Roots_of_the_Jewish_Tradition/). Maybe a subset that wanted to change from worshiping many Gods, to only worshiping one. This makes sense especially when looking at how the Bible and historians both describe the taking of Jerusalem/Jebus from the Jebusites (who were another subset of Canaan society - maybe power just changed hands from one party to another?). Just like the two Christian sects of the Gnostics and Roman Catholics fought and had a victor, maybe something similar happened here.
(this is just a theory I am forming - please dont take my words as fact or anything like that - I am just toying with these ideas so far!)
Anyways - I was thinking that maybe "YHVH" (the Hebrew name for God) is one face of God, who thinks it is the only face of God, and doesnt realize that it is fighting itself. As a species trapped on a single planet - as a species we are constantly at war with ourselves, as individuals we are constantly at war with ourselves, and maybe this is reflected above us as well as below us. (a common spiritual tenant/belief is that the earth and heavens reflect and mirror each other)
The Jews say that God stopped creation before it was finished, and that we have a responsibility to finish that creation (Related to Tikun Olam). As per the Emerald Tablet, I think creation is being done simultaneously in multiple realities as different reflections of each other (this ties into the Many Worlds Theory in science too). As above, so below - As within, so without kinda thing.....
Gets me thinking about reflections and how thoroughly connected all things are..... Watching the way people act towards each other and towards the earth makes me wonder: Are the gods at war with each other? This seems to a theme in many religions. And then I think - do gods forget their true nature of unity? (is that their true nature?) Are they really just fighting themselves, unaware that the God before them which they battle is really a repressed part of their own soul? Is this a metaphor, or is the universe really so crazy?
If humans can fight their own inner demons, can God end up doing the same thing? How inter-related is the universe really?
